How to cook

Marinate the tempeh

  • Marinate the cubed tempeh with the garlic powder and light soy sauce.
  • Let it marinate for 10 minutes.

Prepare the sweet and sour sauce

  • Add the tomato ketchup, light soy sauce, white vinegar, pineapple juice, corn flour, water, salt and sugar to a bowl, mix well and set aside.

Prepare the wet mixture

  • Mix the light soy sauce, egg, corn flour, plain flour, baking powder, cold water and salt, then set aside.

Prepare the fried tempeh

  • Coat the marinated cubed tempeh with the wet mixture, and then the potato starch
  • Deep fry the tempeh until golden brown.
  • Strain the excess oil on several kitchen towels and set the fried tempeh aside.

Start cooking

  • Heat the oil over high heat, then sauté the onion, garlic, and ginger for 1-2 minutes until the onions are cooked.
  • Add in the red, green and yellow capsicums, then cook for 2 minutes.
  • Add in the pineapple chunks and cook for 1 minute.
  • Lower the heat to medium then stir in the sweet and sour sauce.
  • Mix well and then leave the sauce to boil for 2-3 minutes, continuously stirring until the sauce thickens.
  • Once the sauce has thickened, add in the fried tempeh and immediately mix well in the sauce.
  • Stir quickly so the fried tempeh can remain crisp.
  • Serve warm on the side with some white rice!
